Music Allies is an Asheville-based marketing and promotions company that works with major festivals and independent record labels. Creative Allies operates a social network that connects art students, freelance designers and music fans with paid design opportunities.
Please see below for our available job openings. Salary is commensurate with experience. We are also looking for interns in a number of areas. Intern positions are unpaid, however we pay a daily travel/meal stipend, or a day rate, based on experience level. Minimum number of hours per week is 24, in blocks of at least 4 hours at a time.

Ruby Programmer and System Administrator
You are a skilled system administrator with many years of experience in running high-traffic web sites. You know how to best build up a performance and secure web application stack all the way from routers to servers to load balancers. You're are flexible, down with startup life, keen on new challenges, and you're a team player. And oh, you love music! Located in the bohemian paradise of Asheville NC (close proximity to Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Knoxville and Greenville).
Responsibilities:
- Install software, apply patches, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts from commercial, open source and locally developed monitoring tools.
- Develop the back-end features for the Creative Allies Rails-based platform.
- Optimize the back-end of existing features for performance and stability.
- Track down and resolve issues with the platform in close communication with our users
- Build and maintain a scalable storage cluster.
- Define, document, and maintain the system and network architecture within creativeallies.com.Identify and recommend future technology and architectural advancements to support creativeallies.com, technology migration, integration, and evolution.
- Manage and lead hardware and software migration and upgrade efforts of varying size and complexity.
- Work with our hosting providers to resolve issues and perform updates.

Requirements:
- At least 5 years professional systems maintenance experience in a Unix environment, preferably Linux and/or Solaris.

- Experience with Ruby on Rails and preferably at least one more language.

Marketing Coordinator

Responsibilities:
- Manage the development and execution of simultaneous live events, studio shoots, sweepstakes, cross-media programs and custom editorial content.
- You will be responsible for seeking out design job opportunities from bands, managers, agents and labels for our social network Creative Allies.
- Additionally, you will oversee scheduling and advancing various live recording sessions with Music Allies clients.
Requirements:
- You have deep connections at independent and major labels, management firms and booking agencies that you can immediately and readily contact.
- You are comfortable with online databases and CRM systems.
- You have been at the forefront of using the web to help artists and labels connect with their fans.
Social Media Marketing
The social media position will be responsible for planning and implementing grassroots marketing campaigns across social networks. In addition to just posting news and content, you will be required to organize the information, analyze the data, and write up a full report.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing online community connections for Creative Allies, and interact daily with users to promote the Creative Allies brand, particularly on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
- Assist with inbound linking strategies e.g., search engine marketing (SEM), cross-linking, social media marketing.
- Carry out specific search engine optimization tasks, including adding website and blog content, keywords, and meta tags.
- Work closely with Business Development and the CEO
- May respond to inbound contacts from website by email or telephone.
Requirements:
- You must be a blogger, Twitterer and have accounts on multiple social networks.
- Good computer skills and tech-savvy.
- Active on social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and YouTube.
- Website editing experience essential.
- Graphics and multimedia editing experience preferred.

Sales Development Internship
The Sales Development position will be responsible for supporting the Advertising and Sponsorship Director for Creative Allies. The position is for a creative, savvy thinker who can build and implement strategic marketing solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Support all aspects of campaign planning; launch execution, optimization and recap.
- Work with Advertising and Sponsorship Director to schedule sponsorship opportunities / features according to calendar and client needs.
- Maintain meticulous records, tracking and reports of all marketing activation programs.
- Provide timely recap reports with program analysis and analytics.
- Manage production of monthly travel and prospecting calendars.
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree with some professional experience in sales marketing or business-to-business marketing within entertainment and media or ad agency.
- Excellent telephone skills and computer knowledge with proficiency in database management and word processing.
- Demonstrated proficiency composing written communications.
- High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
- Applicants should consider themselves self-starters with strong organizational skills and have a clear grasp of the online media and entertainment market.
- Powerpoint and graphic design skills are important.
Graphic Design Internship
The graphic design position is for tech-savy, music loving designers who want to intern with a smart web community. You must know your way around Photoshop, be good with web coding (at least HTML and CSS) and have lots of Flash know-how. You'll be creating alongside an experienced group of design and music biz veterans making everything from printer posters to web pages. Must want to learn and grow every day.
Responsibilities:
- Design static and flash content for Creative Allies.
- Create sales one sheets and marketing materials for print and Web.
- Design advertising and promotional banners and graphics for clients.
- Work with closely with our Creative Director and other in-house Designers on creative direction.
Requirements:
- A good working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, front-end web technologies including HTML, CSS, Javascript and Flash.
- Should keep up with design and web trends and be able to work skillfully under deadline.
- Up-to-date knowledge of trends in graphic design.
- Up-to-date knowledge of trends in web and multimedia design.

Operations Intern
This is an Asheville based internship that works closely with all facets of Music Allies to improve internal systems and support our amazing team. Applicants should have experience setting up networks, emails systems and using consumer databases like Filemaker and Access. Music Allies' propriety systems support our event and music marketing efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Porting our propriety databases to a new web platform.
- Database maintaince, updates and enhancements
- Assist with IT and network troubleshooting and improvements.
Requirements:
- Practical database administration.
- Deep knowledge of Filemaker Pro.
- Understanding of relational database concepts and architecture.
- XML, RSS, XHTML, CSS, Javascript skills.
- Must possess excellent communication skills.
- Capable of presenting technical concepts in easy to understand terms to audiences of various technical abilities.
Publicity Internship
The position will allow you to familiarize yourself with the real world process of PR campaign strategy and planning. The position is for students or recent graduates with existing experience in journalism and public relations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor media for coverage and reporting on clients. Primarily in charge of sourcing and developing summaries of media hits.
- Source new press contacts and keeping database up to date.
- Help develop pitches to media and formulate PR strategy.
- Generate and create ideas together with the team for PR campaign development.
Digital Arts / Web 2.0 Development Internship
We're looking for digital art/web development interns to help us create and maintain content for social network games and interactive marketing tools.
Responsibilities:
- Planning and designing user-experience.
- Developing look and feel.
- Creating illustrated game assets.
- Optimizing existing assets.
- Deep collaboration with teammates. Every project is different and requires versatility and a desire to learn new techniques, tools and processes.
Requirements:
- You MUST have experience with Photoshop and Flash. If do not have expertise in these programs please do not respond.
- iPhone app experience and success using Facebook Connect preferred.
- You should be a kick-ass visual designer.
- You have an impeccable design sense, experience working with online media, and a strong interest in games are prerequisites.
- Illustration skills aren’t necessary but they are a huge plus.

Web Editor Internship
The Web Editorial position will support in updating our websites, sending online communications to members, updating and organizing on social networking sites. The position will also assist in implementing strategic online plans to raise public awareness for Music Allies campaign work.
